#031 The Butterfly
This page was a lesson in paying attention. I cranked it out really fast. Because of the nature of the backgrounds, with lots of plants and such that don’t have line art, I lay the flat colors for Sonya, and then she does all the touching up and shading to make them really pop the way they do. So I sent it to her late one night. When she started working on it, she pulled me over and asked if there was supposed to be sky instead of canyon wall behind Kets in the fourth panel. I had somehow completely forgotten to actually draw the rest of the background on that one!
She sent me back the partially shaded file, and while I was adding background to it, I realized there were loads of other things I’d totally messed up, including the color of the canyon walls themselves and the redness around Kets’ new tattoos. This is why it’s always a good idea to take a look at an image again the day after you dub it finished instead of sending it out hot off the presses. Maybe I got a little too excited. This is one of the funny scenes I’ve been wanting to draw since the beginning of this project!
